1AhmadNNaheed Ahmad, ODDR. N. AHMAD & ASSOCIATESDr. Ahmad has been practicing Optometry for over 29 years total and the last 23 in Atlanta, Georgia. Dr. Ahmad grew up in Montreal, Canada where she completed an undergraduate degree in Microbiology and Immunology. She earned her Optometry degree at the University of Waterloo, Ontario, Canada before moving to the United States. Dr. Ahmad presided as co-president of the International Optometric Honor’s Fraternity at the University. Dr. Ahmad was been a presenter at SECO (South Eastern Conference of Optometry) in 2006 and 2007, as well as at AOA (American Optometric Association) in 2009 National Meeting and at the GOA (Georgia Optometric Association) annual meeting in 2008. In 2004 she was awarded Wal-Mart’s National Optometrist of the Year and has been the optometrist of her region for 3 separate years. She has also been a lecturer for Alcon and Bausch and Lomb and on the editorial panel for Women of Optometry. She is presently on the Advisory panel for Wal-Mart Optometrists as well as the Past-President of the American Association of Corporate Optometrists. She has been an Independent Doctor of Optometry with Wal-Mart for over 20 years. She completed internships in Ocular Pathology, Vision Therapy, and Specialty Contact Lens Fittings. Dr. Ahmad is Board Certified at the National and State levels in the diagnosis and treatment of ocular disease. Dr. Ahmad has extensive experience in family eye care, including, pediatric eye examination, contact lens fitting, eye surgery co-management and adult eye care. Dr. Ahmad’s training and experience also allow her to diagnose, treat, and manage all eye conditions. 2AjamianPPaul C. Ajamian, ODSECO InternationalPaul C. Ajamian, O.D., a Diplomate of the American Board of Optometry, is the co-founder of the first Optometric Comanagement Center in the Country, Omni Eye Services. His monthly column known as “Clinical Quandries” has run in Review of Opometry since the 1990s. He is a past president of the Georgia Optometric Association, a founding Board Member of the American Board of Optometry, and has served as General Chairman of the Education Committee for SECO International since 2002. At SECO 2018, he was honored with the President’s Award, for Lifetime Achievement in Continuing Education. In 2014 he was the recipient of the AOA’s highest honor, the Distinguished Service Award for Lifetime Achievement. In 2015, he was inducted into the National Optometry Hall of Fame. She is an internationally recognized key opinion leader, specializing in dry eye disease and specialty contact lenses. Dr. Barnett lectures and publishes extensively on topics including dry eye, anterior segment disease, contact lenses and creating a healthy balance between work and home life for women in optometry. She is a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry, a Diplomate of the American Board of Certification in Medical Optometry, a Fellow of the British Contact Lens Association and serves on the Board of the American Optometric Association Cornea and Contact Lens Council, Women in Optometry, Gas Permeable Lens Institute, International Society of Contact Lens Specialists and is Past President of The Scleral Lens Education Society. Drs. Melissa Barnett and Lynette Johns authored and edited the book Contemporary Scleral Lenses: Theory and Application with the unique perspectives and contributions of international experts. Dr. Barnett was awarded the inaugural Theia Award for Excellence for Mentoring by Women in Optometry. She was granted the Most Influential Women in Optical from Vision Monday in 2019. 11CastilloRRichard Castillo, OD, DOAmerican Society of Optometric SurgeonsDr. Richard E. Castillo, OD, DO has been NSU-OCO’s Chief of Surgical Services and principle surgeon since 1998. He is the 2021 recipient of the Arkansas Optometric Association's Special Service Award for "Outstanding Service to the Association and Profession of Optometry," a past recipient of the Oklahoma Association of Optometric Physician's Distinguished Service Award (2017), has been honored as the first "ophthalmologist" to be named "Distinguished Friend" of the Illinois College of Optometry (2019), and has been acknowledged by the Oklahoma State Board of Examiners in Optometry for outstanding contributions to the advancement of optometric surgical care (2016). Dr. Castillo is the recipient of a Special Citation from the Oklahoma House of Representatives for his Contributions to the Advancement of Surgical Eyecare in the State of Oklahoma (2015). With his arrival, Dr. Castillo established the present NSU-OCO Outpatient Optometric Surgical Procedures Student & Resident Training Clinic in 1999, training scores of optometric faculty, students and residents as well as DO and MD colleagues in optometric dermatologic and laser procedures, and clinical medicine for over two decades. Dr. Castillo is one of the original (founding) members of NSU’s Advanced Procedures CE (Surgery & Laser) Course (1999), a past commissioner and chair of the National Comission on Vision & Health, has served as a physician reviewer for the Health Resources and Services Administration, and is a volunteer with the Oklahoma Medical Reserve Corps. Dr. Castillo has served on multiple committees for the National Board of Examiners in Optometry including the Laser & Surgical Examination (NBEO:LSPE) task force/development committee, and has been contributing to optometric education nationwide since 1995. 21GersonJJeffry Gerson, ODGrin Eye CareDr. Jeffry Gerson graduated from Indiana University school of Optometry in 1997, after which he went on to do a VA residency concentrating in low vision and ocular disease. He has been in several different practice settings, including a retina referral practice where he participated in several large clinical trials. Currently, Dr Gerson is in private practice that is a collaboration of both OD’s and MD’s. He see’s primary care patients, and has an emphasis on retinal care in his practice. He enjoys having 4th year optometry interns with him and the challenges that they present. He still participates in clinical trials and utilizes many different diagnostic modalities. Dr. Gerson is a frequent lecturer in the US and abroad, and writes regularly for optometric publications. While attending the University of North Dakota, Dr. Greenwood was recognized by ESPN as an Academic All-American football player. After receiving his undergraduate education, Dr. Greenwood enrolled in the University of North Dakota School of Medicine and Health Sciences to complete his Doctorate of Medicine. For his ophthalmology training, Dr. Greenwood chose to train at Case Western Reserve University/University Hospitals in Cleveland, OH where he was an administrative chief resident. Dr. Greenwood furthered his ophthalmology training with an advanced anterior segment fellowship at Vance Thompson Vision alongside board-certified ophthalmologists Drs. Thompson and Berdahl. When Dr. Greenwood is not performing eye surgery, he enjoys spending time with his wife, Heidi and daughter Quincy. Together they like playing golf, running, reading, and listening to music. 32KwanJJustin Kwan, ODJustin Kwan, OD, FAAO is a 2009 graduate of University of California, Berkeley. He completed a dry eye and contact lens research fellowship / residency at Southern California College of Optometry (SCCO) where he was an assistant and then associate professor for seven years. At the University Eye Center, he served as chief of the contact lens service and also directed the dry eye clinic. He specializes and is passionate about dry eye, keratoconus, refractive surgery, orthokeratology, myopia management and multifocal contact lenses. Dr. Kwan is a reviewer for many professional journals and editor in chief of Clinical and Refractive Optometry. He collaborates with optometrists and ophthalmologists in clinical research. Dr. Kwan chairs the American Academy of Optometry’s Fellows Doing Research SIG. He has also served on the board of the Orange County Optometric Society as the legislative chair and won “young optometrist of the year” in February 2018 from the California Optometric Association. In October 2018, he moved with his family to Chicago, Illinois and became a full-time associate optometrist at Professional Eye Care Center. He is the current president of the Chicago North Side Optometric Society. In 2016 he was awarded the Optometrist of the Year for the Nebraska Optometric Association and the Young Optometrist of the Year for the American Optometric Association. In 2014 he was awarded Political Keyperson of the Year for the Nebraska Optometric Association and Alumni of the Year from Skutt Catholic High School. Dr. Wolfe has a passion for education. He is a co-founder of KMK Board Certification Review Services, a company specializing in preparing Doctors of Optometry to take the American Board of Optometry examination. He is the founder of EyeCode Education, a company specializing in clinical and billing education.
