900: Strutting Your Stuff: Modern Day Aesthetics and NOLA Architectural Walking Tour

The breadth and scope of therapies and procedures Doctors of Optometry can offer patients to simultaneously correct disorders, enhance function, and improve the cosmetic appearance of the eye and its adnexa has exponentially increased. This fast-paced, multimedia course provides a broad overview of optometric aesthetic therapies, including oral and topical medications, over-the-counter remedies, injectable neuromodulators, radio frequency technology, intense pulsed light, and plasma ablation.
The custom Poydras Street Architectural walking tour will depart from the Hilton Riverside and explores the early development and growth of what has become the heart of the Central Business District: the Poydras St. Corridor. Looking into the past and present-day conditions of this illustrious, and under-explored, segment of New Orleans’s rich urban and architectural tapestry, we will discuss the architecture, the economy that drove development, and how buildings and spaces have shaped and influenced the ongoing development of Poydras St. and the Central Business District. The tour features Louisiana Super Dome, One Shell Square and the former World Trade Center that is now being restored as the new Four Seasons Hotel and Gallier Hall.

901: As Seen on TV – Designer Drugs and their Ocular Side Effects presented with the New Orleans City Tour by Night

Even when taken properly, certain systemic medications have the ability to cause ocular side effects. This course will highlight several systemic drugs that can result in ocular complications. Clinical presentation, diagnosis, and management of the ocular complications will be discussed.
Guests will board deluxe motorcoaches and set off on a journey to the many unique neighborhoods that make up the diverse New Orleans community. The tour begins down Decatur Street, past Jackson Square and the French Market, through Treme’ and then on to Esplanade Avenue past the St. Louis Cemetery and into City Park. At the park we’ll stop for 30 minutes to visit the Morning Call beignet stand for a café au lait and beignets. The tour will continue to Lakeshore Drive and Lake Pontchartrain and then through the Carrollton neighborhood to the beautiful mansions along St. Charles Avenue, through downtown past the Louisiana Superdome and back to the hotel.

902: Malpractice Misadventures presented at The New Orleans School of Cooking Culinary Event

A variety of potential malpractice scenarios will be discussed, with an analysis of how they could have been avoided. An overview of what a malpractice case entails will be given, from the insurance claim to discovery to deposition to jury selection to trial. We will have our cake and eat it too!
Guests will be escorted a short distance (approximately 10 minutes) from the Hilton Riverside Hotel to the New Orleans School of Cooking on St. Louis St. in the French Quarter. There guests will enjoy a true culinary experience with a live cooking demonstration, lots of fun, stories about New Orleans and the cities rich culture and love of good food. Attendees will receive a 3-course dinner, beverages, and a souvenir commemorating the event.
