ATLANTA, GA — January 30, 2019 —  SECO International, the world’s leading annual conference providing ophthalmic professionals with outstanding educational opportunities since 1923, is pleased to announce that the Oklahoma Association of Optometric Physicians (OAOP) is positioned to become a SECO member, pending the outcome to the vote that will take place at the House of Delegates meeting on Saturday, February 23 at SECO 2019 in New Orleans. This would be the first member state addition to SECO International since 1947.

Currently, SECO proudly hosts twelve member states, including Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia. As the thirteenth member state, Oklahoma’s members would gain access to leading edge continuing education classes, exposure to business best practices, introduction to a robust network of peers, and hands-on engagement with innovative techniques, technology, products and services.

“SECO International is pleased with the opportunity to welcome OAOP as a member and is eager to engage OAOP members and include them in our leadership and volunteer positions, as we continue to develop specialized education for Optometrists and Allied Healthcare Professionals,” said Emilio Balius, OD, president of SECO International, LLC. “Member states serve as a conduit to ophthalmic professionals across the country. These professionals enrich the SECO organization by bringing distinct and diverse knowledge and experiences to the community.”

The OAOP represents over 500 Optometric Physicians in Oklahoma, committed to the profession and dedicated to providing quality eye care to their patients. OAOP's mission is to lead optometric physicians through education and opportunities to improve vision, eye care, and health care.

“OAOP’s core values are rooted in integrity and competence through medical and educational excellence, and pioneering the vision for tomorrow's leadership,” said Jason Ellen, OD. “SECO’s mission is perfectly aligned with these values and we are confident that our eyecare professionals will greatly benefit from our SECO membership. We look forward to learning the results of the vote.”

While the SECO vote won’t be official until February 23, Oklahoma eyecare professionals can still receive the member rate using promo code “OKL19” during registration.
